File format requirements

Exactly what we accept, and the export settings that avoid problems.

Accepted formats

  • DICOM — .dcm, .dicom. Upload the whole series, not selected slices.
  • Surface scans — .stl.
  • Archives — .zip, useful for sending a DICOM folder as one item.
  • Supporting documents — .pdf, .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .tif, .tiff.

Export settings that matter

  • Export DICOM uncompressed where your scanner offers the choice. Some proprietary compressions are not readable by planning software.
  • Export the full field of view. Cropping to the surgical site removes anatomy the planner may need.
  • Export .stl in millimetres. A scan in centimetres arrives a tenth of the correct size and has to be re-sent.
  • Send the raw scanner export rather than a re-save from a third tool where you can — each conversion is a chance to lose data.

We check the actual contents of every file, not just its extension. A JPEG renamed to .stl is rejected before it uploads, which saves you discovering the problem an hour later.
